Ongjin County’s Bukdo-myeon office reported on April 19 that about 1,000 people — both locals and visitors — turned out for the 13th Jangbongdo Cherry Blossom Festival on the 18th, making it a festive success.

With warmer temperatures nudging the blooms earlier, organizers moved the schedule up. Under a bright spring sky, attendees soaked in the fully bloomed cherry trees and the fresh seasonal vibes.

The festivities kicked off with performances by the traditional Jangbong Pungmul troupe and the Sea Sound ensemble and chorus. The main attraction was the Cherry Blossom Walk: participants strolled a scenic roughly 4-kilometer (about 2.5-mile) loop that started at Ongam Beach, crossed Malmun Pass, and returned — snapping photos and savoring the views along the way.

The Jangbong Women’s Association set up a food market featuring fresh seafood delights like octopus and sanghaptang, a hearty local seafood stew, which proved popular with visitors. The county wrapped up the event with a guest singer performance.

“Thanks to everyone’s interest and participation, we were able to hold a safe and successful festival,” said Ko Su-young, head of Bukdo-myeon. “We’ll keep hosting events that showcase our beautiful natural surroundings to welcome even more visitors.”
