Uljin County in North Gyeongsang is turning heads with a smart, budget‑friendly travel plan as rising fuel costs tied to Middle East tensions push gas prices higher.

On April 7, Uljin announced that with fuel prices squeezing drivers, it’s rolling out an “economical and smart Uljin trip” that pairs Korail train travel with tourist taxis.

To celebrate 2026 Travel Month, Uljin is partnering with Korail for a bold tourism promotion running from April through May 31.

The centerpiece of the promotion is essentially eliminating transportation costs for visitors.

If travelers book an Uljin package through Korail’s website and visit, then scan a QR code at any one of 10 major attractions—including Seongryugul Cave, the National Uljin Marine Science Museum, or the Wangpicheon Cable Car—they’ll receive a discount coupon equal to their full train fare. In practice, that means a round‑trip train ticket becomes free.

The county has also tackled the biggest local transport headache for train travelers. Uljin will cover 60% of tourist taxi fares, so visitors can use a four‑hour taxi service for about ₩32,000 (roughly $24).

Those taxis do more than shuttle you around: experienced drivers provide tailored services like guided commentary, local restaurant picks, and photo help—boosting satisfaction for overnight stays.

For lodging, the Stay Sale Festa offers clear discounts: ₩20,000 (~$15) off stays under ₩70,000 (~$52.50); ₩30,000 (~$22.50) off stays of ₩70,000 or more; and up to ₩70,000 (~$52.50) off for consecutive‑night bookings totaling ₩140,000 (~$105) or more.

Reservations open on the 8th at 10 a.m. via the lodging app, so travelers should be ready to book quickly.

There’s plenty to enjoy once you arrive. From April 11 for two days, the Seongryugul cherry‑blossom deck path will host lively busking performances and a flower market to welcome train travelers.

“As fuel prices rise, combining trains and tourist taxis is the smartest alternative for travelers who want to avoid the fatigue and expense of driving,” said Yoon Eun‑kyung, director of Uljin County’s Culture and Tourism Division. “We hope many visitors take advantage of the rail‑fare refunds, taxi subsidies, and other benefits in Uljin.”
