TenAsia named Woody, Sandara Park, Soyou, Wooz, Han Roro, Park Seo-jin, Hwasa, Shin Seung-tae, Kim Yong-bin and Son Bin-ah as the March winners of its Artist Top Ten (TENASIA ARTIST TOP TEN) K-pop Genre Brand category.
In March, TenAsia held a global vote through its voting service, splitting the contest into K-POP BOY BRAND, K-POP GIRL BRAND and HOT GENRE BRAND categories. Voting ran from March 9 through March 22.
TenAsia’s Artist Top Ten highlights the month’s most talked-about domestic artists. Male and female idol acts and artists across genres — from indie and mixed groups to balladists — compete for the top spots in their respective fields.
Singer Woody took first place in the K-pop Genre Brand category. He is set to release a new remake digital single, “Two People,” on various streaming platforms in April. “Two People,” originally released by Sung Si-kyung in 2005, is a signature ballad known for its warm vocal color, graceful melody and romantic lyrics. Woody reimagined the song in his own style; it remains a popular choice for wedding playlists.
Sandara Park placed second. She maintains a close rapport with fans through her YouTube channel DARA TV, and in a video posted on the 10th she attended Milan Fashion Week, watched runway shows and appeared at brand events. After finishing her schedule, she visited a luxury department store and joked, “I might have to have a baby just so I can dress it,” drawing laughs.
Soyou came in third. She began dieting in January of last year and attracted attention after losing a total of 20 kg (about 44 lb). In December, she revealed on her YouTube channel Soyougi that her lowest recorded weight was 49.1 kg (about 108 lb). In February she addressed rumors of plastic surgery following her weight loss, explaining, “My heaviest before dieting was 68 kg (about 150 lb). Some people think I only lost 10 kg, but I actually dropped to 48 kg (about 106 lb), so I lost 20 kg. That changes your face.”
They were followed by Wooz, Han Roro, Park Seo-jin, Hwasa, Shin Seung-tae, Kim Yong-bin and Son Bin-ah.
The rankings for Woody, Sandara Park, Soyou, Wooz, Han Roro, Park Seo-jin, Hwasa, Shin Seung-tae, Kim Yong-bin and Son Bin-ah were determined 100% by votes conducted on TenAsia’s voting platform and its mobile app. After each month’s voting closes, TenAsia tallies fans’ votes and selects the top 10 artists with the highest totals. The voting page also runs a daily check-in event that awards one heart per day.
Nominees for the K-POP BOY BRAND and K-POP GIRL BRAND categories are selected from the month’s top 20 artists on the Melon Chart and the Idol Champ monthly chart. Hot Genre Brand nominees are chosen from the month’s top 20 artists on the Melon Chart and the Celeb Champ monthly chart.
Artists who make the Artist Top Ten receive benefits tied to their final ranking, including feature stories, promotion on TenAsia’s website and inclusion among next month’s nominees — with the No. 1 artist guaranteed a spot.
