Ansan City in Gyeonggi Province said on May 7 that it will present the Ansan Municipal Gugak Orchestra’s regular series, the Thursday Bono Concert, on the third Thursday of each month from May 21 through Dec. 17.
The Thursday Bono Concert is an intimate series intended to make gugak — Korean traditional music — more approachable for residents. Performances are held at the Bono Maru small theater and begin at 7 p.m.
This year’s program centers on the "Gugak Gonggam PLUS" series, featuring solo and chamber performances that spotlight traditional instruments — haegeum, ajaeng, daegeum and gayageum — in a variety of formats. Organizers also plan special seasonal programs to further showcase the genre’s range.
The city has added commentary by resident conductor Lim Gyo-min so even audience members unfamiliar with gugak can follow along easily. Lim’s friendly introductions aim to unpack traditional music in accessible terms, giving residents more opportunities to encounter gugak in everyday life.
Each concert runs about 60 minutes. Tickets are 5,000 KRW (about $3.75) and are available from the Ansan Culture & Arts Center and the Interpark Ticket website.
