Hyangsan Middle School, led by Principal Kim Mi‑hee, staged a teacher‑student busking after school on the walk home, creating a space for empathy and conversation.
On April 28, the Gimpo Office of Education said the event was part of the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education’s 2026 "Grow Together, Let's Grow Project 2.0." The initiative identifies five supported growth areas—Talk, Art, Play, Interlink and Navigate—and aims to build peaceful, student‑led schools rooted in mutual respect by connecting those areas to support student development.
In line with that framework, Hyangsan last month rolled out a mutual‑respect pledge under the relationship‑centered "Let's Talk" program and signed a school‑culture responsibility agreement. In April, the school also held a teacher‑student soccer match under the collaboration‑focused "Let's Play" initiative.
At the "Grow Together, Let's Art! Teacher‑Student Busking" on the way home, students opened the program with four songs: "0+0," "Every Moment of You," "Good Night, Sweet Dreams," and "Cherry Blossom Ending."
Student council members and teachers then performed together, using a range of instruments—vocals, electric guitar, bass, piano, acoustic guitar, recorder, maracas and djembe. They interacted with the student audience during the set, reinforcing the values of positive school life, healthy peer relationships and mutual respect.
Students from the student council who took part said, "We're proud we pulled off the busking, and it was a great chance to feel how music brought everyone together."
Principal Kim said, "Music speaks to the heart in ways words often cannot. The shared experience of playing and singing together—and of listening as an audience—creates opportunities to understand one another, share emotions and build respect. I hope today's teacher‑student busking becomes more than a performance and serves as a stepping stone toward mutual respect and a peaceful school culture."
