[Sports Seoul | Reporter Lee Seung-mu] Song Si-hyun Dream, the project band led by composer Song Si-hyun—best known for the hit "I'll Always Be With You"—is releasing a new single to honor the May 18 Democratic Uprising (the 1980 Gwangju Uprising).
To mark the May 18 anniversary, Song Si-hyun Dream will release the single "May's Child" on the 7th at 12 p.m. across major streaming services. The song is the second in the project's series, following April's "A Dreamlike World," and is intended to translate the era's memories and messages into music.
"May's Child" is based on the story of one family during the May 1980 uprising. The song quietly but powerfully follows a son's coming of age and resolve, using music to pledge that this painful chapter of history will not be forgotten.
The track opens as a single-person monologue, gradually expands to two and three voices, and culminates in a full chorus. That progression is meant to move the memory of that day beyond individual grief toward a collective vow to remember and carry it forward.
Song Si-hyun wrote and composed the song, with Park In-hwan responsible for the arrangement. The restrained instrumentation and lyrical development, combined with a clear, message-forward arrangement, deepen the piece's emotional impact.
Song Si-hyun Dream said, "With 'May's Child,' released just a month after 'A Dreamlike World,' we wanted to make the band's musical direction and message even clearer."
Song Si-hyun Dream is a project band that uses music to tell stories about its era, its society and its people. The group plans to broaden its reach with songs that explore a range of themes and messages. It also plans to release fresh reinterpretations of Lee Sun-hee's signature songs—"When You Turn the Pages of Memory" and "With a Big Laugh"—which has raised anticipation among listeners.
Song Si-hyun debuted at the Riverside Song Festival in 1986 and has written and composed many hits for Lee Sun-hee, including "I'll Always Be With You," "When You Turn the Pages of Memory" and "Winter Melancholy." He has also contributed to film and television soundtracks such as "Record of Exorcism," "Youth," "Glory of the Family" and the drama "Report of the New Generation: Adults Don't Know," maintaining a distinctive presence in South Korea's music scene.
Song Si-hyun Dream's new single "May's Child" will be available to stream on all major music platforms beginning at 12 p.m. on the 7th.
