[iNews24 Reporter Moon Jang-won] On the 19th, South Korea’s presidential office, the Blue House, called North Korea’s launches into the East Sea provocation that violates U.N. Security Council resolutions and demanded they stop immediately.
Senior Blue House spokesperson Kang Yoo-jung said in a written briefing that the National Security Office convened an emergency security-review meeting with the Defense Ministry, the Joint Chiefs and other relevant agencies after North Korea fired multiple ballistic missiles from the Sinpo area of South Hamgyong Province into the East Sea.
At the meeting, the National Security Office conducted a multifaceted assessment of the security implications of the launches — North Korea’s first in 11 days since the 8th — and reviewed necessary response measures.
With President Lee Jae-myung preparing to depart on state visits to India and Vietnam, he ordered government agencies to maintain heightened readiness and ensure full preparedness.
Kang said the National Security Office briefed the president on the launch and planned response steps.
Earlier that morning, at about 6:10 a.m., North Korea launched several unidentified ballistic missiles from the Sinpo area in South Hamgyong Province into the East Sea.
The Joint Chiefs said the missiles traveled roughly 140 km (about 87 miles). South Korean and U.S. analysts are conducting a detailed assessment of the weapons’ specifications. The military has stepped up surveillance and alert measures to prepare for additional launches, and South Korea, the U.S. and Japan are closely sharing information and maintaining full readiness.
