LIG Defense & Aerospace (LIG D&A) secured the first export of its shipboard air-defense missile, Haegung, seven years after the weapon entered mass production. At the DSA 2026 defense expo in Kuala Lumpur on April 22 (local time), LIG D&A signed an export contract with Malaysia’s Ministry of Defense. The agreement is worth $94 million (about 140 billion KRW). Haegung is a domestically developed shipborne air-defense missile designed to intercept a range of aerial threats, including anti-ship missiles and aircraft. Development led by the Agency for Defense Development (ADD) began in 2011. Mass production kicked off in 2019, and the South Korean Navy started deploying the system in 2021. Under the deal, Haegung will be installed on Malaysian coastal patrol vessels constructed by Turkey’s STM.
