[CBC News] IRNA reported that on April 4 (local time), U.S. and Israeli aircraft carried out airstrikes on petrochemical facilities and a nuclear power plant in Iran.

Officials in Khuzestan province said the strikes struck the Mahshahr petrochemical complex and the Bandar Imam area, injuring at least five people. Deputy Governor Valiollah Hayati said U.S. and Israeli warplanes targeted the Fajr 1 and 2 complexes and the Razal, Amir Kabir and Abu Ali petrochemical plants. He said part of the Bandar Imam facility was destroyed, while the Amir Kabir plant appears to have escaped damage.

Around 8:30 a.m. the same day, the Bushehr nuclear power plant in southern Iran was hit. The strike killed one security worker and damaged a support building. Initial inspections found no damage to the plant’s critical systems, and operations were reported to be unaffected.

IRNA said Bushehr has been struck four times since attacks began on Feb. 28. The agency warned that because the site contains large amounts of radioactive material, severe damage could produce irreversible consequences.

Authorities in Hormozgan province also reported that a cement plant in Bandar-e Hamir was hit but reported no casualties and no disruptions to production.

Iran has maintained a strategy of retaliating by targeting similar facilities across the Gulf and inside Israel, a posture that could further elevate regional tensions.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi wrote on X, “Israel and the United States have attacked the Bushehr plant four times,” warning, “Radioactive fallout will threaten the capitals of Gulf states, not Tehran.”

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said it has received reports that Bushehr was struck but has not detected any rise in radiation levels. Director General Rafael Grossi urged military restraint, saying, “Nuclear sites and their surrounding areas must never be targeted.”
