Translation resultNaver, led by CEO Choi Soo-yeon, said it will begin on April 23 to automatically disable comments on articles that exceed a set threshold of malicious remarks. The AI-based detection system CleanBot will scan articles across all sections — including politics and election coverage — to identify abusive comments.

If comments surpass that threshold, the site will display a notice reading, "CleanBot has detected a large number of malicious comments and the comment service is not available," alongside a 'Green Internet' campaign banner.

Launched in 2019 as the industry's first AI system to detect malicious comments, CleanBot has been continuously upgraded to flag profanity, sexually explicit or violent language, and hateful, demeaning or discriminatory expressions. Naver says it is preparing another CleanBot model upgrade for the end of April.

Since February, Naver has been operating a "memorial comments" feature for disaster and obituary articles to prevent secondary harm to the deceased and victims while still allowing users to express condolences and empathy.
