The Foundation for the Practice of Free Press will hold a seminar marking the 40th anniversary of the May 18 Gwangju Uprising and the 1980 production-refusal movement among journalists.
On Wednesday, April 29 at 3:00 p.m., the seminar — titled “The 1980 Production-Refusal Press Struggle: Questioning the State of Korean Media Today” — will open with a presentation by Ko Seung-woo, co-chair of the Association of Journalists Dismissed in 1980. A panel discussion will follow featuring Ko Chan-soo, president of the Korea PD Association; Kim Dong-hoon, president of the Korea Journalists Association; Kim Seo-jung, co-representative of the Citizens’ Coalition for Democratic Media; and Seong Jae-ho, president of the Broadcast Journalists Association.
The Korea Press Foundation is sponsoring the seminar, with Media Today serving as media sponsor.
Due to COVID-19 social distancing measures, the event will be streamed online without an in-person audience. Organizers also plan a commemorative ceremony and symposium on June 10 to mark the 40th anniversary of the 1980 production-refusal movement. They invite public interest and support.
Date & Time: Wednesday, April 29, 3:00–5:30 p.m.
Location: Jeongdong Francisco Education Center, Room 212
The seminar will be covered in print and streamed online.
