Woori Financial invited 200 disadvantaged children…company athletes served as one-day mentors
"Today is about running freely and having fun—not about showing off skills."
Woori Financial Group Chairman Im Jong-ryong offered those words as encouragement to disadvantaged children during a Children's Day event. On May 5, the group said it had invited 200 disadvantaged children from the Gyeongin region to its community sports event, Woori Dream Sports Day.
The inaugural event was designed to let children interact with sports stars, experience healthy physical activity and nurture their dreams. Athletes from Woori Financial's basketball, volleyball, shooting and billiards teams participated as the children's one-day mentors.
The invited children joined the athletes in activities such as aiming at moving basketball hoops, a Big Ball volleyball challenge, attempting to match a shooter's score and a mini pocket-billiards experience. Recreational missions also gave participants the chance to complete tasks and win prizes.
Woori Financial also announced the launch of its Woori Dream Bridge 2026·2036 program to develop future national athletes. Starting this year, and in partnership with the Korean Sports Association, the firm will select 40 promising athletes in lesser-known sports each year and provide support for training and medical expenses. The company plans to build a decade-long sponsorship system to help those athletes grow into national representatives by the 2036 Summer Olympics.
Chairman Im said, "Woori Financial Group will stand with these children and support them as they pursue the dreams they hold in their hearts."
