Ansan City Choir will present its 78th regular concert, "Meeting Handel," at 7:30 p.m. on May 14 at the Haedoji Theater in the Ansan Arts Center.

On April 29, the city said the program spotlights familiar works by George Frideric Handel, a leading composer of the Baroque era. The concert opens with the coronation anthem "Zadok the Priest" and moves into lyrical arias such as "Ombra mai fu" and "Lascia ch'io pianga."

Audiences will also hear a wide range of Handel's music, including "See the conquering hero comes" from the oratorio Judas Maccabeus, selections from the Water Music and the Sarabande.

The program's highlight is Handel's early masterpiece "Dixit Dominus," celebrated for its brilliant counterpoint, brisk momentum and majestic choral writing. The Ansan City Choir's tight ensemble is expected to bring the work to life.

The concert features the Ansan City Choir under music director Ji-hoon Park, with leading Korean soloists including sopranos Hye-jeong Kang and Hae-won Lee, countertenor Min-ho Jeong, tenor Se-il Kim and baritone Hyung-gyu Kang. The early-music ensemble Concerto Antico will join to enhance the performance's authenticity.

Lee Sun-hee, director of the city's Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau, called the program "a meaningful opportunity to hear Handel's signature works in one place" and said she hopes the concert will let citizens experience the depth and emotion of classical music.

The performance runs about 95 minutes. Tickets are priced at R seats 12,000 KRW (about $9.00), S seats 8,000 KRW (about $6.00) and A seats 5,000 KRW (about $3.75). Tickets may be purchased through the Ansan Arts Center box office or Interpark Ticket.
