[mdtoday = Reporter Lee Ga-eul] Mosu Seoul, the fine-dining restaurant run by Chef Ahn Seong-jae, issued a public apology after a wine-service controversy surfaced online and pledged steps to prevent a repeat. The issue erupted when posts on online communities claimed a wine vintage ordered by a guest had been swapped and served without permission.

On the 23rd, Mosu Seoul posted on its official social channels, “We sincerely apologize for the matter raised on online communities.” The restaurant acknowledged fault, saying staff failed to provide clear guidance during the wine-pairing and did not offer a sufficient explanation afterward. That lapse, they said, caused confusion and disappointment for the guest.

The matter began with a post from a customer identified as A, who visited the restaurant on the 18th. A said that while enjoying a wine-pairing course with friends, the sommelier served a 2005 vintage instead of the 2000 vintage meant to accompany the Korean beef main. A noticed differences in aroma and flavor and confirmed the vintage discrepancy by checking the pairing list.

A also pointed to what they described as suspicious behavior during service. After requesting to photograph the bottle, A says the sommelier briefly left and then returned, at which point a 2000 vintage bottle appeared on the table. A suspects the restaurant may have realized the vintage error and acted to cover it up.

Mosu Seoul said it offered a separate apology to the guest immediately after the incident. A restaurant representative told the outlet, “Although the customer accepted our apology graciously, we take it very seriously that we failed to meet expectations.”

Chef Ahn Seong-jae and the entire team said they are treating the matter with gravity. Mosu Seoul added, “We will review all related services and strengthen measures to prevent recurrence. We won’t stop at a formal apology—we will work to restore trust.”
