Gijang County in Busan announced on April 21 that the 30th Gijang Anchovy Festival will take place around Daebyeon Port in Gijang-eup from April 24 to 26.
Organized by the Gijang Anchovy Festival Committee, this milestone 30th edition will spotlight anchovies—the area's signature seafood—through hands-on activities and lively performances.
The festival opens on the 24th with a ceremony and continues with fishing boat rides, barehanded live-fish catching, stage performances, and a fireworks show over the water. The commemorative stage lineup includes Jung Seo-ju and Cheon Rok-dam on the 24th; Son Bin-ah, Chae Yoon, and Choi Ji-ye on the 25th; and Mister Pang, Kim Soo-hee, and Jang Ha-on on the 26th.
The Gijang Anchovy Song Festival will hold preliminaries on the 25th and the finals on the 26th, followed by a community singing contest. Free tastings of raw anchovy (anchovy sashimi) will be offered throughout the festival.
To help visitors, the county will run a free shuttle bus connecting Lot 2 at Gijang Station on the Donghae Line and the festival site from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends.
A Gijang County official said, "We'll bolster the festival's standing as the area's signature event by featuring spring anchovy dishes and hands-on experiences."
