[CBC News] In the May Netizen Awards' Dae-Star category, two titans of Korean pop — Gu Chang-mo and Cho Yong-pil — are once again locked in a fierce, no-holds-barred vote for first place. As of 6:42 p.m. on May 7, Gu held a narrow lead with 1,186 votes, representing a 31.8% share.

Cho Yong-pil, celebrated as the \"King of Song,\" trailed closely with 1,134 votes, or 30.4%, keeping the outcome uncertain.

The margin between the two legends is a razor-thin 52 votes. Together they command more than 60% of the vote, effectively turning the race into a two-person duel and concentrating virtually all attention on who will take this month's honor.

These veterans have long traded the top spot in this category. This month's contest erupted early and looks set to remain highly competitive through the end of the voting period.

Trailing the pair, Kim Wan-sun sits third with 500 votes. Icons who helped shape Korea’s pop history — including Lee Sun-hee, Na Hoon-a and Nam Jin — round out the top ranks, contributing to a heated field.

With fan mobilization driving a surge in ballots, observers are watching to see whether Gu can hold on or whether Cho will mount a late comeback to claim May’s title.
