The 24th Director's Cut Awards are set for the 19th. This year’s ceremony will be hosted by directors Bong Man-dae and Jang Hang-jun, joined by Kim Cho-hee, who earned praise for her witty turns as host at last year’s event. Together they will lead the program as a three-person hosting team.
Awards span creative categories—Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best New Director and the Vision Award (Independent Film Award)—alongside acting honors: Best Actor, Best Actress and the New Actor/Actress awards. Acting prizes will judge performance on its own terms, without separating lead and supporting roles. The New Actor/Actress awards are intended to spotlight performers showing a side audiences haven’t seen before. The series category, introduced in 2022, will be explored in greater depth this year.
Launched in 1998 by the young filmmakers’ group Director’s Cut, the awards kept their informal, convivial spirit even after DGK took over in 2017. True to their longstanding motto—“Eat, drink, and give awards”—the ceremony remains a relaxed celebration rather than a formal gala.
