[MyDaily reporter Kim Do-hyung] Choi Hyun-joon, a member of the group V.O.S, personally announced that he and his family are immigrating to Canada.
On May 13, Choi posted on his social media, writing, "After a long, careful period of thought, we've decided to immigrate to Canada. We're starting now," and included a Canadian flag emoji. The photos he shared show him packing up and selling his car as he prepares for the move.
Choi said that while the family's final destination is still unknown, he hopes the new chapter in Vancouver brings nothing but joyful surprises and that they grow even happier together.
He acknowledged the news might feel sudden to some, but explained he'd been weighing the decision for a long time. He said he's directing his life toward his children and family to create a healthier, happier future.
He also apologized to fans who might feel disappointed, asking for their understanding and requesting support for his new life, even if that seems selfish.
Choi clarified this isn't a full stop to his career. He said he'll continue performing in Korea every October, November and December, and that he plans to adjust to a new routine as a fourth-quarter artist.
He even shared his travel timeline: he'll complete his schedule through June 16 and depart on June 17.
Fans have been sending supportive messages such as, "We support this decision for your family," "Wishing you happiness," "So glad you'll still perform in Korea," and "Rooting for your fresh start."
Choi debuted as a member of V.O.S in 2004 and remains active today. He married model-turned-fashion entrepreneur Shin So-yi, who is four years his junior, in 2014; the couple has one son and one daughter.
Below is Choi Hyun-joon's full message.
#Canada
May 13, 2026
After a long, thoughtful period of worry and consideration,
we decided to immigrate to Canada.
We're starting now.
We don't always know where our final destination will be,
but we hope the new challenges we'll face in Vancouver
bring nothing but happy miracles for our family's future.
We hope to become even happier.
ps.
Some of you may have noticed already, but I made this decision very carefully.
I'm sorry to anyone who feels this came abruptly or feels disappointed,
but I've been thinking about it for a long time.
I'm focusing my life on my children and family
to try to build a healthier, happier future.
Still, I'll keep performing in Korea every October, November and December!!
I'll do my best to settle into a new routine as a fourth-quarter artist ^^
Please understand if any of you feel even a little hurt ㅠㅠ
It might be selfish, but please cheer for my new life.
(I'll work through my schedule until June 16, and I depart on June 17.)
