Ridership is rising on Namdo Hanbakkwi, the tourist loop bus operated by Jeonnam Province.
On the 30th, Jeonnam Province said the spring routes launched in March will run through May. The program offers 23 itineraries focused on spring flowers, gardens, islands, and local food. Fares start at 12,900 KRW (approximately $9.68), and most tours combine major sights with local festivals.
Demand has climbed alongside rising fuel prices. With driving becoming more expensive, many travelers are opting for the more affordable bus packages.
Roughly 50 days after the launch, ridership topped 5,500 — more than a 10% increase compared with the same period last year. Several routes now show high booking rates on weekdays as well as weekends.
Reflecting this trend, Jeonnam Province will add three special routes in May. These include connection routes timed for the Hampyeong Butterfly Festival and the Wando International Seaweed Expo, along with schedules that feature hands-on experiences.
The province expects total ridership this year to reach around 26,000 — about 3,000 more than last year.
A provincial official said, "The relatively low cost appears to be one factor driving the increase," adding, "We plan to continue refining the seasonal routes."
