This Children's Day, Gyeonggi Province is rolling out a lineup of arts-and-culture experiences for kids and families across the region — think bubble shows and military band performances, Pokémon GO–style activities, and paper-boat making. We hunted down spots that go beyond watching and invite kids to jump in, make things, and play — perfect for a long-weekend outing.
From May 1 to 5 (closed on the 4th), the Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation is offering special Children's Day programs at nine affiliated venues across the province, blending arts, nature, and history.
In Yongin, three museums are teaming up to make a day out extra fun. The Gyeonggi Children's Museum is celebrating with \"Body and Sound\" — movement and sensory workshops paired with a bubble show, a military band, and street performances. The Gyeonggi Museum is boosting family engagement with \"Open, Museum Park,\" featuring a Find the Guardian in the Artifacts mission, creative workshops, and the traditional Korean musical What Does a Rabbit Look Like?. The Nam June Paik Art Center will turn media art into an interactive kids' exhibit with Saekdong: Space Opera. Join the Open, Museum Park! Let's Walk Together stamp tour to complete missions at key collections and snag limited-edition souvenirs.
In Ansan, expect outdoor, hands-on fun around the museum and creative campus. The Gyeonggi Museum of Art invites visitors to its Trainer, Museum Go! Get Museum Goods event, where you can roam 22 outdoor sculptures like PokéStops and score museum merch. On Children's Day, there will also be a postcard-decorating activity, and the outdoor deck will host a busking series called May Melody for relaxed viewing and chilling out. Gyeonggi Creative Campus is throwing a kids' arts festival, GCC! Festival: Paper Boats Aplenty, with paper-boat making and launching, ocean terrarium workshops, and a resident-group woodworking collaboration to make a cat house. A flea market and a roaming brass band round out the party vibe.
Up north and east, interactive programs are on offer too. The Namyangju Silhak Museum will present A Day for Little Silhak Scholars, featuring eight Silhak-themed activities like keycap keyring and magnet making, plus face painting. The Dongducheon Gyeonggi Northern Children's Museum will transform its space into an ecological playground with the theme Children Become Forest Grain, offering programs such as Making Our 10th Spring Birthday Cake, A Day in the Forest Garden, and the Everything Art Truck. During the events, families can also catch narrated children's gugak (traditional Korean music) concerts, street dance, and magic shows for a memorable day out.
There are programs that mix traditional culture and history, too. On Children's Day, the Namhansanseong History and Culture Center in Gwangju will present A Royal Decree! Enjoy Pungnyu at Namhansanseong!, featuring folk games like jegichagi and tuho, the Challenge! Golden Bell: San-gaji Calculation King! activity, plus magic and a cappella performances.
