Spring blooms will carpet 250,000 m² (about 2.69 million sq ft / 61.8 acres) of Ilsan Lake Park — April 24–May 10, 17 days of floral magic
The 18th Goyang International Flower Expo opens April 24 and runs through May 10, transforming the area around Ilsan Lake Park into a 17-day spring spectacle.
The Goyang International Flower Expo, the city’s signature spring festival, will fill 250,000 m² (about 2.69 million sq ft / 61.8 acres) under this year’s theme, “Flowers Dye Time.” Expect dazzling outdoor displays, special indoor exhibitions, live performances, pop-up events and a bustling flower market.
◆Major landmark: the “Time Traveler’s Garden” — outdoor gardens that demand a visit=Outdoor exhibits this year are designed for lingering and interaction, not just looking. Themed gardens will guide visitors through past, present and future, turning passive sightseeing into an immersive experience.
The theme plaza, “Time Traveler’s Garden,” uses flowers to create a time-travel hub. The main sculpture is inspired by the traditional Korean celestial globe honcheongui and incorporates sundial and water-clock motifs. The centerpiece stands 13 m tall and 26 m wide (about 42.7 ft x 85.3 ft) and features a rotating spherical flower sculpture that represents the passage of time.
Along a metasequoia-lined avenue, the “Light Garden” offers an aerial experience: three-dimensional structures that echo Korean traditional aesthetics and hanging gardens that catch and showcase natural light.
There are also gardens devoted to emotional balance and healing through plants. In the “Mind Temperature Garden,” visitors can express feelings through flowers and color, with interactive features that incorporate MBTI and personal color concepts to boost engagement.
The “Flower Therapy Garden” blends existing trees with natural landscaping to create restful pockets throughout the grounds. The healing garden invites hands-on experiences, such as planting companion plants, for a calming, restorative visit.
Memory-themed spaces — including “The Flowers of That Time,” “Memory Alley Garden,” and “Flowerful 1997” — offer nostalgic vignettes perfect for slow strolls and photos.
Across the expo, themed programs complement the floral displays. The rose garden’s “Rose Festa” will feature a rose workshop (experience zone), live performances and more. A playful “rotation matchmaking” event, aimed at people in their 20s and 30s, creates a relaxed, flower-filled setting for meeting new people.
“Pengsu’s Flower Picnic Garden,” built around a 5 m (about 16.4 ft) inflatable Pengsu character from EBS, channels a cozy camping-and-picnic vibe. On May 1, attendees will get a chance to meet Pengsu in person.
◆Global floral artists’ showcase “Floral Odyssey” — rare and standout plants=Inside the Floral Exchange Hall, the global floral artists’ exhibition “Floral Odyssey” brings together five artists from five countries under the theme “Colors of Memory.” Participating artists include Chantal Post (Belgium), Zhikko Natalia (Russia), Irati Tamarit (Spain), Solomon Leong (Hong Kong) and Kim Jong Kook (South Korea), each presenting a distinct floral voice.
About 30 countries, including Colombia, Ecuador and Indonesia, will present rare and exotic blooms. Look out for eye-catching varieties like the crystalline “Elsa Tulip,” large dahlias with flower heads over 15 cm (about 5.9 in), and a 1.2 m (about 3.9 ft) “giant rose.”
The Floriculture Industry Hall will showcase new cultivars — more than 30 international and roughly 170 domestic varieties. A collaborative campaign by the foundation and the Korea National Arboretum invites visitors to make seed balls by shaping soil and seeds by hand, with proceeds and supplies helping areas affected by wildfires.
On the indoor stage, don’t miss competitions and showcases including the 13th Preserved Flower Cup (April 26), the Korea Flower Arrangement Competition (April 30), the IHK Cup Flower Design Competition (May 2–3), the 8th Children’s Flower Decoration Contest (May 5) and an Amateur Flower Decoration Contest (May 5).
◆Waterside performances, busking and the Rosy Stage=The expo pairs floral beauty with a lively performance lineup. On opening day, April 24, the waterside stage will kick off with the Goyang City Choir and a celebratory set from Kim Da-hyun of “Miss Trot 2.”
Shows will run on three stages — the waterside stage, the busking stage and the Rosy Stage — featuring everything from pop and trot to classical vocals, flute, cheerleading and a senior fashion show. Around the waterside, visitors can try a seasonal water-flower bicycle experience available only during the expo.
Near Hanul Plaza, the Goyang Flower Market will offer fresh-cut flowers sold directly by about 30 local flower farms, along with regional agricultural products and unique lifestyle goods.
