On the afternoon of the 10th, the musical Billy Elliot staged a Show & Tell at the Aram Theater in Goyang's Aram Nuri cultural center. The event featured staged scene excerpts followed by a press Q&A.
Im, who first played Billy 16 years ago, has rejoined the company as the adult Billy after being promoted to principal dancer at Universal Ballet — a move that drew considerable attention.
He said, \"I'm grateful that, like Billy, I was able to fulfill my dream of becoming a ballet dancer and that I'm now returning as the adult Billy. That alone makes me happy. I'm rehearsing closely with the young Billys, and every moment brings me joy.\"
Reflecting on returning to Billy Elliot after 16 years and performing alongside a new generation of Billys, Im said, \"Memories from 16 years ago came flooding back — it's like a trip down memory lane. Watching the young Billys, I feel affectionate and proud, almost like an older brother.\"
He added, \"It still doesn't feel completely real since the run hasn't started yet, but when the lights go down and the Dream Ballet chair begins to turn — and I find myself watching Billy dance from behind this time — I think that will be a very happy moment. I'm genuinely excited for the production.\"
Billy Elliot runs April 12 through July 26 at Blue Square Woori Bank Hall.
