Jindo County, in South Jeolla Province, announced on the 17th that it has named native singer Maijin as its promotional ambassador.
County officials said Maijin’s warm, widely recognized persona will help highlight Jindo’s appeal to visitors and potential tourists.
Maijin is a trot singer—a performer of a long-standing Korean pop-folk genre—originally from Namdong-ri in Imhoe-myeon, Jindo County.
Officials said she will take part in major events and tourism promotion activities, including the Jindo Mysterious Sea Road Festival.
Kim Hee-su, the county mayor, called Maijin’s return to represent her hometown especially meaningful, noting that she was born in Jindo, realized her ambitions, and won the public’s affection. He said he hopes her bright energy will help share Jindo’s beauty and cultural value more broadly.
