The Daegu Culture and Arts Center will present a "Hope Concert" at Palgong Hall on Tuesday, the 19th, at 7:30 p.m., featuring 100 singers from the Daegu Vocalists Association. The event is part of the center’s Arts Spring Daegu Festival.

Promoted under the slogan "When spring comes, art blossoms," the program brings local artists and residents together in a community choral performance. About 100 singers will take the stage, promising the sweeping yet subtle harmonies of a large choir.

Founded in 2011, the Daegu Vocalists Association brings together veteran, midcareer and emerging singers based in Daegu. The group has regularly staged performances to promote local vocal arts and support new creative work.

The program will be led by Woo Seong-kyu, conductor of the Gyeongsan City Symphony Orchestra. The lineup includes major choral works such as Giuseppe Verdi’s "Dies Irae," Gabriel Fauré’s "Libera me," and the choral finale of Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9.

The concert continues with separate men’s, women’s and mixed choirs. The men’s ensemble will offer robust renditions of "Il Mondo" and "I Heard It Through a Rumor," while the women’s choir will bring a lighter, luminous tone with Kim Hyo-geun’s "Wings of Dreams" and the pop standard "Sunny."

The mixed choir will perform pieces steeped in Korean sensibility, including Oh Byung-hee’s arrangements of the "World Folk Song Medley" and "Beautiful Songs," along with works titled "Heung," "Jeong" and "Pan Korea." For the encore, the group will present "Thoughts of a Friend" and "Gyeongbokgung Taryeong."

The concert follows an MOU between the Daegu Culture and Arts Center and the Daegu Vocalists Association. The two organizations have built a cooperative framework to support local vocalists, broaden their opportunities and create a more stable environment for creation and performance. Tickets are KRW 15,000 (approximately $11.25). Admission is open to elementary school students and older. Inquiries: 053-430-7667.
