The program moves from the Classical era’s emphasis on balance to the expansiveness of Romanticism, spotlighting human resolve as it pushes beyond anxiety and tension.

At the orchestra’s 630th subscription concert, Associate Conductor Seung-hyun Baek will lead performances of Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 20, with pianist Da-sol Kim as soloist, and Beethoven's Symphony No. 3, the "Eroica." Mozart’s Concerto No. 20 is notable for the way it reveals darker emotions and inner tension within the Classical framework.

Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3, "Eroica," expands beyond conventional form with its sweeping scale and development, offering a grand musical portrait of an individual confronting hardship and ultimately overcoming it. The concert aims to depict how people carve new directions amid anxiety and fracture.

Seung-hyun Baek studied at Seoul Arts High School and Seoul National University, then earned master’s degrees in orchestral and choral conducting from the Nuremberg University of Music in Germany. He has conducted a wide range of ensembles at home and abroad, including the Detmold City Theatre Orchestra and the Gangnam Symphony Orchestra.

Baek is equally committed to contemporary music; he has led Korean contemporary works by composers such as Seok-hee Kang and Byeong-dong Baek with ensembles including the TIMF Ensemble, Seoul Modern Ensemble and Ensemble Wiro. He has taught at Pusan National University and Duksung Women’s University, and since 2023 has served as associate conductor of the Busan Philharmonic Orchestra and principal conductor of the Busan City Youth Symphony Orchestra.

Pianist Da-sol Kim first drew attention at 16 when she won the Nagoya International Music Competition. A German tour with the noted conductor Sanderling helped establish her on European stages, and she has since performed alongside maestros such as Myung-whun Chung and Alan Gilbert.

Kim is also active as a chamber musician, regularly appearing at festivals including the PyeongChang Daegwallyeong Music Festival, the Marlboro Music Festival in the United States, and the Kissingen Summer Music Festival in Germany. She has taught at the Leipzig University of Music and currently serves on the faculty of Seoul National University's College of Music, where she mentors the next generation of musicians.

All tickets for this performance are currently sold out. Patrons can monitor the Busan Concert Hall website for any last-minute seat releases.
