[Sports Seoul | Reporter Bae U-geun] Jacob Scesney, a Grammy-winning saxophonist, praised BTS member V’s impromptu saxophone performance after a fan posted video of the moment, drawing admiration from fans around the world.
Jacob Scesney recently left a comment on a fan’s video of V playing the saxophone, recalling the experience.
Scesney has contributed to more than 50 hit songs and worked with artists such as Maroon 5, the Jonas Brothers, Shawn Mendes, and John Legend. He also participated in the production of V’s solo album, Layover.
V appeared on Tiny Desk Korea in September 2023, performing “Love Me Again,” “Slow Dancing,” and “For Us” live. Scesney was part of the backing band for that set.
Immediately after the performance, Scesney updated his Instagram bio to read “Tae-Band musician.” He also posted a photo of V playing the sax and wrote, “He can play my sax anytime,” signaling his appreciation for working with V.
Scesney later offered a more detailed recollection: “V played exceptionally well. After the live session ended, he politely asked if he could try my sax. My sax is actually very difficult to play — it requires a lot of breath control and significant jaw pressure. Even so, he played astonishingly well.”
He added, “I was so moved that you could see me smiling in the back. That moment wasn’t a rehearsal or planned at all. V just picked up the sax and started to play, and the band naturally followed. It was an incredible moment, and I’m glad to hear it made fans very happy.”
The brief, spontaneous performance has drawn renewed attention for capturing both the atmosphere of the live session and V’s musical sensitivity.
V reportedly studied the saxophone for about four years beginning in his first year of middle school as he pursued his dream of becoming an idol.
