[iNews24 reporter Lim Jeong-gyu] The Army's Capital Mechanized Infantry Division (Sugi-sa) 5670th and 5198th units announced on April 20 that they will conduct a tactical training evaluation from April 27 through May 1 across Icheon, Yeoju and Yangpyeong in Gyeonggi Province and Hongcheon County in Gangwon Province.
The exercise will simulate wartime conditions to assess integrated combat command from brigade to battalion levels and to sharpen operational readiness.
Artillery, engineer, air defense and CBRN support units, together with tracked-vehicle maneuver formations, will operate jointly to reinforce combined-arms capabilities.
Two brigade-sized formations will mobilize their full forces. Large numbers of tracked platforms — including armored personnel carriers, tanks and self-propelled howitzers — along with other military vehicles will move on major roads in Icheon, Yeoju, Yangpyeong and Hongcheon.
Authorities expect traffic controls and reduced speeds on sections of National Routes 3, 37, 42 and 44 and on Provincial Routes 88, 333, 342 and 345.
To prevent accidents, units will pre-inspect maneuver routes and position safety controllers and military police at likely congestion points to minimize disruption for residents.
During large tracked-vehicle and convoy movements, three road sweepers will be deployed immediately to wash road surfaces and remove debris, helping ensure traffic safety and limit impacts on local life.
A division official said the command will do its best to minimize inconveniences such as road congestion and training noise caused by troop and equipment movements. The official also asked residents for understanding and cooperation, stressing that the training is intended to protect citizens' lives and property and to ensure public safety.
