The U.S. has revoked residency status and moved to detain relatives of a senior Iranian figure.

On the night of April 4 local time, the State Department said Afshar, the niece of the late IRGC commander Qasem Soleimani, and her daughter were arrested by federal agents after their lawful permanent resident status was terminated.

They are being held at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility, and Afshar’s husband has been barred from entering the United States.

The State Department said the individuals advocated for the Iranian regime and engaged in anti-U.S. propaganda while in the United States.

The department also revoked the U.S. legal status of — and barred entry for — the daughter and son-in-law of Ali Larijani, the former secretary-general of the Supreme National Security Council.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the Trump administration will not allow the United States to become a safe haven for foreigners who support anti-American terrorist regimes.
