A U.S. KC-135 aerial refueling tanker crashed in western Iraq during operations targeting Iran, killing four crew members.

CENTCOM posted on X on March 12 (local time) that it had lost a KC-135 tanker and that the mishap occurred during Operation Grand Fury.

In a separate statement, CENTCOM said four of the six crew members died and that recovery teams were operating at the scene.

CENTCOM added there was no indication the incident was caused by enemy action or friendly fire and said it will provide additional information as the situation develops.

Officials believe the KC-135 may have collided midair with another refueling aircraft.

Authorities say the other aircraft involved made an emergency landing at Israel’s Ben Gurion International Airport.
