Pakistan says it plans to host meaningful talks between the United States and Iran within days in an effort to end the war in the Middle East.

Pakistan Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar told reporters in Islamabad on the 29th (local time) that following four-way talks with Turkey, Egypt and Saudi Arabia, both sides expressed confidence in Pakistan’s mediation.

Iran Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said at a briefing on the 30th that the proposed meeting falls within a framework Pakistan established on its own and that Iran did not take part.

He said Iran has never negotiated directly with the United States, and that the discussions now being reported reflect only Washington’s willingness to negotiate, conveyed through intermediaries.
