On March 17, the Naval Aviation Command conducted a runway-repair operation at Pohang Gyeongju Airport as part of Exercise FS (Freedom Shield).

The unit deployed 12 pieces of heavy equipment — including loaders and excavators — along with personnel to repair large blast craters simulated as the result of enemy attacks. Crews filled and covered the damaged areas with a high-strength special mat known as FFM (Folded Fiberglass Mat). The FFM system is designed to restore a surface suitable for safe aircraft landings.

A Naval Aviation Command official said the exercise was coordinated with the Busan Regional Aviation Office and Pohang Gyeongju Airport, and that flight safety — including civilian takeoffs and landings — was prioritized throughout the training.
