U.S. Vice President JD Vance said the United States still has last-resort options against Iran and that whether they are used will depend on the Iranian government's response.

AFP reported that Vance spoke at a joint press conference with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán in Budapest on the 7th (local time). "The United States has completed most of its military objectives against Iran," he said. "However, there remain measures the U.S. military has not employed."

He added, "We expect extensive negotiations before the deadline. We are waiting for Iran's response — the ball is in their court — and I am confident we will receive an answer soon." President Donald Trump set a deadline on the 5th while pressing Iran to keep the Strait of Hormuz open, moving the cutoff to 8 p.m. on the 7th (Korea time: 9 a.m. on the 8th).

Meanwhile, U.S. forces launched strikes on Kharg Island that day. The site handles roughly 90 percent of Iran's oil exports. Multiple U.S. officials said the military struck more than 50 targets on Kharg Island, though energy facilities were not targeted. President Trump posted on Truth Social: "Today an entire civilization will disappear and never be restored."
