Iran's foreign ministry said Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi outlined Tehran's position on transit rules for the Strait of Hormuz during a phone call with South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun.
The ministry said on March 24 that Araghchi called Cho on March 23 (local time) and told him, \"The Strait of Hormuz is closed to vessels belonging to the invaders (the United States and Israel) and their supporters and sponsors.\"
Araghchi added that ships from other countries would have no problem transiting the strait if they coordinate with Iran.
He also accused the United States and, using the term he applied, \"the Zionist regime,\" of carrying out military attacks against Iran during nuclear negotiations. He stressed that the current instability in the Middle East and in the Strait of Hormuz is a direct result of what he called their unlawful aggression, the ministry said.
The foreign ministry said Cho expressed condolences and regret during the call over the deaths of many Iranian citizens, including students from Minab Elementary School.
