Iran's New Shipping Limit: What You Need to Know About the 15-Vessel Cap in the Strait of Hormuz

Daniel Kim | 2026.04.10

Russian news agency TASS reported that, under the terms of a ceasefire with the United States, Iran will reopen the Strait of Hormuz but cap daily transits at a maximum of 15 vessels.

A senior Iranian official told TASS that all vessel movements will be conditionally allowed and require prior approval from Iranian authorities.

Tehran has already formally notified key regional states of the policy.

Earlier, Tehran said vessels intending to transit the Strait of Hormuz must coordinate with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and, where directed, use alternative routes.
