Iran struck a U.S. Air Force base in Saudi Arabia, wounding 12 service members, officials said.

On March 28 (local time), U.S. outlets including The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal reported that missiles and drones launched from Iran struck Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia the previous day.

U.S. and Arab officials said at least one missile struck the base and several drones also attacked. Twelve U.S. service members who were inside a base building were wounded; two are reported to have sustained serious injuries. Officials also said at least two KC-135 aerial refueling tankers based at the installation suffered significant damage.

Russia's RIA Novosti quoted Ebrahim Zolfaghari, a spokesman for the Hatam al-Anbiya Central Military Command that coordinates Iran's forces, saying one U.S. tanker was completely destroyed and three others were damaged to the point of being inoperable.

Since U.S. and Israeli forces carried out a surprise strike on Iran on Feb. 28 that touched off the conflict, Prince Sultan has repeatedly been a target of Iranian retaliation. The Iranian military said it struck Prince Sultan three times from Feb. 28 through yesterday. Iran also reported 16 strikes on Al Dhafra Air Base in Abu Dhabi and 15 strikes each on Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait’s Zahra area and on the U.S. Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain.

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), which oversees American operations in the Middle East, said roughly 303 U.S. service members have been wounded since Operation "Grand Fury" against Iran began.
