Armed attacks against merchant vessels in and around the Strait of Hormuz have sharply increased uncertainty for global seaborne logistics.
On April 18 local time, Reuters reported that merchant ships attempting to transit the Strait of Hormuz came under gunfire.
Sources in maritime security and the shipping industry said at least two merchant vessels were struck by gunfire, though the extent of any damage was not immediately clear.
Analysts say the incidents underscore that maritime safety risks in the Strait of Hormuz remain elevated.
Carriers are expected to take conservative measures—such as re-evaluating transit routes and schedules—so concerns about shipping disruptions are likely to persist in the near term.
