On March 11, Gen. Jin Young-seung, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (Air Force), visited the ROK-U.S. Combined Forces Command wartime command post (CP-TANGO) with Gen. Javier Brunson (Army), commander of U.S. Forces Korea and of the ROK-U.S. Combined Forces Command, to review the ongoing Freedom Shield (FS) combined exercise taking place in the first half of the year.

The joint inspection of the wartime command post aimed to assess the alliance’s interoperable command system and to strengthen combined defense posture and capabilities.

Gen. Jin said the exercise, conducted as South Korea prepares for the transfer of wartime operational control (OPCON), offers an opportunity to demonstrate the strength of the ROK-U.S. alliance and to validate future combined defense arrangements. He added that the exercise will help build cooperation and trust between ROK and U.S. service members so they can operate as a true one team.
