Iran's state TV affiliate in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad province reported on April 3 (local time) that a U.S. pilot ejected from a fighter jet that crashed in southwestern Iran.
The broadcaster said anyone who captures enemy pilots alive and hands them over to police will receive a substantial reward.
Tasnim News Agency reported that earlier that morning in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad, Iranian forces shot down a U.S. fighter jet. The agency said the pilot ejected, landed inside Iranian territory and may have been taken into custody by Iranian forces.
Local outlets said U.S. forces dispatched several Black Hawk helicopters and a single C-130 Hercules transport to recover the pilot, but the rescue attempt failed.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced it had shot down an F-35 over central Iran and another U.S. fighter near Qeshm Island in the southeast.
If the state broadcaster's report that the pilot ejected is accurate, that aircraft would appear to be different from the two the IRGC says it downed.
