A Wall Street Journal report on March 23 (local time) found that, contrary to President Donald Trump's complaints that European countries were not aiding the U.S. in a war with Iran, they have in fact provided crucial support.

According to the Journal, over the past several weeks U.S. bombers and drones have refueled, taken on munitions and launched from bases in six European countries, including the United Kingdom, Germany, France and Italy.

A command center that controls attack drones in real time targeting Iran is also based at the U.S. facility in Ramstein, Germany.

NATO's Supreme Allied Commander in Europe told the U.S. Senate that most European allies have been highly active in supporting operations.

However, Spain refused to allow use of its bases, and the U.K. initially denied permission before reversing course.
