Opening a Public Suggestions Center and promoting Jangbyeong-eum… Soliciting input from the public and service members across the board
The Ministry of National Defense launched the Defense Sector Normalization Task Force (Normalization TF) and will begin full operations on the 27th. The initiative aims to improve the efficiency of defense operations and deliver tangible changes that the public will notice. According to the ministry, the TF will carry out a comprehensive review of long-standing unfair practices, outdated regulations, and systems that no longer fit current realities. Vice Minister Lee Du-hee will lead the TF, and the ministry established a public–private joint structure to ensure objectivity and expertise.
The ministry said it will make \"voices from the field\" the TF’s primary engine and strengthen communication channels with both the public and service members. It opened a dedicated Ministry of National Defense Public Suggestions Center on its official website, allowing anyone to submit complaints or policy ideas related to defense. The ministry also allows anonymous submissions so service members can provide candid feedback without fear of exposing their identities.
To ensure service members are aware of and actively use the suggestion portal, the ministry will also collect frontline feedback through the military-only platform Jangbyeong-eum, listening for suggestions on supply improvements, streamlined administrative procedures, and barracks culture reform.
Tasks identified during TF operations will not be limited to review; they will be classified as short-, medium- and long-term initiatives and assigned concrete implementation roadmaps. Through the TF, the ministry expects to break with habitual practices, create an environment where service members can focus on their duties, and build a transparent defense management system the public trusts.
Vice Minister Lee said, \"This TF is not just about identifying problems; its goal is to create changes that citizens and service members will feel.\" He added, \"We will listen to both the public and internal military voices, reform abnormal practices and systems, and establish a modernized defense environment.\"
