Neither side showed any sign of backing down.
As the deadline neared, tensions across the Middle East surged.
U.S. forces struck military targets on Kharg Island — Iran’s primary oil export hub — to increase pressure.
President Trump warned he would "flatten" Iran’s power plants and bridges if Tehran failed to keep the Strait of Hormuz open. Iran countered by mobilizing civilians to form human chains around power stations and vowed to resist.

President Masoud Pezeshkian also said he, and some 14 million citizens, had pledged to sacrifice their lives.
With the deadline looming, military confrontations between Israel and Iran intensified further.
Israel announced concentrated airstrikes on key Iranian infrastructure.
It struck the South Pars petrochemical complex and carried out attacks on three airports in the Tehran area, reportedly damaging aircraft and helicopters, Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps drone facilities, runways and control towers.
Iran has continued retaliatory strikes, repeatedly targeting energy infrastructure in other Gulf states, including an attack on the Jubail petrochemical complex in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province — a major industrial center.
Only a few hours remain.
Neighboring countries are on high alert for any contingency.
