The Busan Police Agency said it conducted a joint, multi-agency counterterrorism exercise at the Busan Port International Passenger Terminal on the afternoon of April 29.

The drill tested responses to complex terror scenarios involving drones, explosives and hostage-taking.

Approximately 200 personnel from 17 organizations participated, including Busan city officials, the National Intelligence Service, the Army’s 53rd Infantry Division (Busan Brigade), the Busan Maritime Police, fire services and the Busan Port Authority.

Agencies conducted realistic, scenario-based drills across land and sea, practicing counter-drone and explosive-attack procedures, neutralizing armed assailants and rescuing hostages.

They placed particular emphasis on intelligence sharing and integrated on-scene response, reflecting heightened terrorism risks amid rising international tensions, including in the Middle East.

The Busan Police Agency said the exercise reaffirmed interagency coordination and first-response capabilities, and pledged to continue regular drills to safeguard public safety.
