On May 1, the Thunder Artillery Battalion’s transport section, assigned to the Army’s 2nd Armored Brigade, marked 4,000 consecutive accident‑free days and held a ceremony attended by all unit personnel, the battalion said.

The streak spans roughly 11 years — from May 17, 2015, through April 29 — and covers about 50 vehicles across 10 categories, including light tactical vehicles and both commercial and military cargo trucks. The fleet logged approximately 1,240,000 km (about 770,500 miles), the equivalent of circling the globe roughly 31 times.

Commanders attributed the milestone to sustained, unit‑level efforts focused on safety and discipline.

Each morning the battalion commander led focused accident‑prevention and hazard‑awareness briefings for drivers and movement supervisors to reinforce a culture of safety.

During higher‑risk periods such as winter and the spring thaw, the unit delivered targeted vehicle‑safety training tailored to seasonal hazards to prevent weather‑related incidents before they could occur.

The battalion also ran one‑on‑one, proficiency‑based driver training and leveled instruction aligned to mission requirements, strengthening drivers’ skills and professionalism.

Lt. Col. Kim Ho‑gyun, commander of the Thunder Artillery Battalion, said, “The 4,000 accident‑free days represent more than a number. They reflect our troops’ commitment to basics and principles under the belief that ‘safety is the unit’s combat power.’ We will build on the experience and knowledge we’ve accumulated to preserve this accident‑free tradition and help the 2nd Armored Brigade maintain its robust combat power as it continues to expand the battlefield across time and space.”
