[Sports Today reporter Kim Tae-hyung] The appeal of SBS’s Shin I-rang Law Office goes beyond its mission to resolve the grievances of wronged spirits. Even amid tense investigative beats, the series punctuates its cases with perfectly timed wit, creating a push-and-pull that keeps viewers fully engaged.

At the heart of the show’s success are Shin I-rang’s (Yoo Yeon-seok) meticulous strategies and the scene-stealing work of his brother-in-law, Yoon Bong-su (Jeon Seok-ho), a former bit player who elevates those plans with sly comic flair. In episode 4’s storyline about an idol trainee’s fall, Yoon—posing as a fake detective—ended up playing the key role in capturing accomplice composer Go Jong-seok (Jung Si-heon). Acting on Shin’s tip about the suspect’s escape route, he delivers a mock-Miranda warning and absurdly aims finger guns at the suspect’s back, prompting big laughs.

The duo’s unpredictable teamwork hit a high point in episode 6. To extract a confession from lead researcher Koo Hyo-jung (Uhm Joon-gi), the real killer in the murder of genius scientist Jeon Sang-ho (Yoon Na-mu), Shin adopts the persona of a cold-eyed shaman—an eerie yet oddly comic turn. He outfits Yoon Bong-su with a red bow tie, joking that it’s a voice-modulation mic, producing a Detective Conan–like visual that had audiences cracking up. Those playful props and inventive setups, placed against otherwise weighty investigations, act like a creative cheat code that boosts the show’s entertainment value.

Shin and Yoon’s partnership has evolved into something beyond a standard brother-in-law dynamic. Shin, the lawyer who sees ghosts, and Yoon, who can’t but leverages his bit-actor instincts, create a distinct comic ensemble. Shin lays the groundwork; Yoon improvises over it, bringing theatrical energy to every beat. Yoo Yeon-seok’s almost trance-like intensity pairs perfectly with Jeon Seok-ho’s lived-in realism, turning serious moments into laughter. Their chemistry transcends bromance and establishes a uniquely “bro-comic” rhythm.

Director Shin Jung-hoon’s handling of tone is a standout element. He weaves comic staging into tense confession scenes so viewers are never allowed to drift. The production team notes that while the deceased’s stories are heartrending, the process of bringing them closure remains upbeat. You laugh as you watch, but the series ultimately leaves a warm humanism at its core—an energy the team calls one of Shin I-rang Law Office’s biggest charms. They asked viewers to look forward to the next outlandish schemes the pair will cook up.

SBS’s Friday–Saturday drama Shin I-rang Law Office airs Fridays and Saturdays at 9:50 p.m. Expect Yoo Yeon-seok and Jeon Seok-ho’s tightening teamwork and the show’s playful twists to keep fueling its ratings rise.
