Rapper Sik-K (real name Kwon Min-sik), who faces drug-use charges, received a suspended prison sentence at trial. Prosecutors are asking the appeals court to impose a three-year, six-month prison term.

On April 2, the Seoul Western District Court’s Criminal Division 2-1 held the first appeal hearing in Sik-K’s case under the Narcotics Control Act, which centers on marijuana-related charges.

Sik-K confessed in 2024 to using drugs. A subsequent investigation found that in 2023 he had taken ketamine and MDMA (ecstasy) and had possessed and smoked marijuana that year. At the first trial, he was sentenced to 10 months in prison, suspended for two years.

At the hearing, prosecutors argued the trial court’s sentence was too lenient and urged the appellate court to impose the three-and-a-half-year term they had originally sought. Sik-K’s attorney countered that his client’s voluntary confession to investigators should be taken into account and maintained that the lower court’s sentence was not unduly light.

Sik-K told the court he is deeply remorseful and asked for a chance to make amends to the family members and agency colleagues he hurt, saying he will live the rest of his life in sincere regret if given that opportunity.

The appellate court is scheduled to issue its ruling on the 30th.
