Luka Dončić, 27, of the Los Angeles Lakers, is embroiled in a courtroom battle with his ex-fiancée over custody of their two daughters.

ESPN reported on the 11th (Korea time) that Dončić has called off his engagement to partner Anamaria Goltes and is now facing a custody lawsuit over their two daughters.

In a statement, Dončić said, "I love my two daughters above all. I did everything I could to bring them to the U.S. to be with me this season. That proved impossible, and I ultimately made the difficult decision to end the engagement."

He added, "Everything I do is for my daughters' happiness. I will always be there for them and will do my best to give them the best possible life."

Dončić, who is from Slovenia, had been in a relationship with model Anamaria Goltes for a decade; they became engaged in July 2023. Their first daughter, Gabriella, was born in November 2023, and their second, Olivia, arrived in December of last year.

When Olivia was born during the season, Dončić flew to Slovenia and indicated he wanted their eldest daughter to come live with him in the U.S. Goltes opposed the move, triggering a dispute that escalated to the point police were called.

Dončić has not seen his daughters since that incident.

After a blockbuster February trade last year that sent him from the Dallas Mavericks to the Lakers, Dončić signed a three-year, $165 million (approximately 220 billion KRW) contract extension with Los Angeles after the season.

ESPN reported that Dončić has been financially supporting his family and has not held back on child support payments.

Goltes filed a lawsuit in California seeking child support and attorney fees; Dončić said he was unaware of the filing.
