Singer-actor Lee Ji-hoon has joined KBS’s epic drama Munmu.
On the 11th, News1 reported that Lee confirmed his role in Munmu (文武 — written by Kim Ri-heon and Hong Jin-yi; directed by Kim Young-jo; series composition by Guh Seong-jun) and has begun filming.
Munmu traces how the small kingdom of Silla rose to overcome the powerful states of Goguryeo and Baekje, and even Tang China, to ultimately unify the Three Kingdoms. With a heavyweight ensemble — Lee Hyun-wook as Kim Beop-min, Jang Hyuk as Yeon Gaesomun, Kim Kang-woo as Kim Chun-chu, Park Sung-woong as Kim Yu-shin, Jung Woong-in as Kim Jin-ju, and Jo Sung-ha as Go Geon-mu — the series has emerged as a major anticipated project.
Lee Ji-hoon will portray Bidam, a role previously played by Kim Nam-gil in the 2009 drama Queen Seondeok and by Choi Chul-ho in the 2012 drama The King’s Dream. Viewers are curious to see how Lee will interpret this complex, layered character.
A singer and actor, Lee has recently appeared on stage in musicals including Mrs. Doubtfire, Dream High, and Notre-Dame de Paris. Munmu marks his return to television after a decade, his last TV role being 2016’s Oh My Geum-bi.
Munmu is slated to premiere in the second half of this year.
