[SPOTV News=Reporter Choi Shin-ae] Kim Kyung-wook, better known for his 'Tanaka' persona, addressed a dispute over the ownership of the song "Good Night, Miss," saying Chinese platforms had effectively claimed its rights.
On March 30, the YouTube channel 'Jjanhan-hyung Shin Dong-yeop' uploaded a video titled "Unpredictable Charm: Sayuri x Kim Kyung-wook — and the Appearance of Sayuri's Men?"
Kim said the song's origins have been contested — with some in Japan calling it a Korean song and some in Korea calling it Japanese — and that Chinese music services had reportedly taken the track and its copyrights, a situation that drew public sympathy.
He added that he had publicly protested on social media at the time. After he raised the issue, the platforms moved quickly, and he was able to reclaim ownership of the song.
Kim also reflected on how long it took for 'Tanaka' to gain traction, saying it took about four to five years. He credited R&B singer Crush with opening doors for him, recalling that during COVID self‑quarantine Crush said, "The content that eased my loneliness was Tanaka," a comment Kim said he still appreciates.
He said he was so grateful that he emceed Crush's manager's wedding and that he always looks for ways to repay those who have helped him.
