Actor Baek Seong-hyun issued a statement about the cancellation of performances of the musical Eyes of Dawn, in which he stars.

On the 11th, Baek posted on his social media: "First, I bow and offer my deepest apologies to the audience who took the time to come to the theater, especially the firefighters who were invited that day. Although I am preparing to perform, as one of the lead actors in Eyes of Dawn, I feel a heavy responsibility for the current disruption."

He added, "The current situation stems from structural problems between the production company and the cast. Please try to understand the hardship my fellow actors faced when they felt they had no choice but to make difficult decisions to protect their legitimate rights."

Baek also wrote, "As one of the lead actors, I'm working tirelessly to prepare my stage. If you come again, I will put my name on it and make it up to you. I am truly sorry once more."

Earlier, on the 8th, the musical Eyes of Dawn—scheduled for 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. at Converse Stage Arena Yeomyeong in Dongjak-gu, Seoul—was abruptly canceled that day. The cancellation also nullified a free-invitation event, organized at Baek's suggestion, for 1,000 current and former firefighters and their families.

The production company later said the shows were canceled due to internal circumstances.

The musical Eyes of Dawn is based on MBC's 1991–1992 drama of the same name. Park Jung-ah and Baek Seong-hyun star in the production, which opened on the 24th of last month.
