[Digital Today reporter Son Seul-gi] On April 20, the Broadcast Media and Communications Commission convened its third plenary session of 2026 and released its audience-share calculations for 166 television broadcasters for 2024.
The assessment covered broadcasters that operate 285 channels with annual viewing records. Audience share represents the percentage of total TV viewing time that a particular channel commands. The commission calculated each broadcaster’s share by combining the broadcaster’s own viewing share, the shares of related parties, and a converted share based on daily newspaper subscription rates.
Among terrestrial broadcasters, KBS led with 20.862%. MBC followed at 10.978%, SBS at 7.550%, and EBS at 1.859%.
The audience shares for general-interest and news-specialized channels were: TV Chosun 7.441%, JTBC 6.145%, Channel A 4.877%, Maeil Broadcasting 4.754%, YTN 3.459%, and Yonhap News TV 3.285%.
Among major channel operators and satellite broadcasters, CJ ENM posted 11.092%, and KT Skylife registered 3.687%.
Compared with the previous year, KBS declined by 0.613 percentage points and TV Chosun fell by 0.563 percentage points. By contrast, CJ ENM rose by 1.103 percentage points and Channel A gained 0.903 percentage points.
The commission reported the media-exchange rate — a measure of the relative influence of television versus daily newspapers — at 0.48 for 2024. The rate indicates that if television is valued at 1, a daily newspaper’s relative value is 0.48.
The commission said it will publish the full results on its website and on the Broadcasting Statistics Portal.
